Note: These next posts have been so thoroughly delayed because I've spent much of the following 2 weeks at campgrounds without a wifi signal. On the rare occasions when I could get one, it took all the time I had just to plan for my next campgrounds and travel routes. I'll get caught up as quickly as I can.

With
the dogs at the boarding place, Lily and I spent a peaceful couple of
days just sitting here in the campground. I scarcely budged out of
the RV and spent the time glued to my computer, trying to catch up on
my blog.
I
really needed the break from the dogs, and I’m sure they felt the
same about me. It’s a good thing I never had kids, because I’d
never have made it sane through the years of the daily-ness of the
commitment. The dogs need a lot more time and attention than I’m
able to give them, so I’m glad of the chance for them to go
somewhere where it’s okay to bark and carry on and act like dogs,
and I’m glad of the chance not to have to take them out for walks a
number of times a day. Life’s a lot easier with a fenced-in back
yard.
When
I went to pick up the dogs on Saturday, I passed the Waukegan airport
and saw dozens of folks – even whole families – sitting out in
lawn chairs next to where their cars and trucks were parked in the
parking lots of businesses and so forth, so I knew something
was going on. And then I saw 2 very unusual-looking airplanes flying
near the airport. One looked really old and the other looked odd in
some way – I had to pay attention to driving, trying to dodge the
traffic on a 2-lane road, so couldn’t look up in the sky for very
long. And they were flying so close together that it dawned on me
this was an air show. I was sorry I hadn’t known about it before
because it looked interesting. When I came back by with the dogs, it
was all over and everybody was gone.
This
is a pleasant, comfortable campground. The campsites are gravel, and
could use more gravel (there were muddy spots left over from a recent rain), and my site isn't as level as I'd like, but they’re
spaced fairly far apart and all have a lot of shade. Some of them
are on Lake Michigan, though I opted not to stay over there, figuring
it would be too heavily populated for comfortable dog walking. And I
got a wifi signal just fine, which was a nice change.
